Well, for starters, Vancouver Washington is only 175 miles south of Redmond Washington, about a 2 to 3 hour commute from Microsoft's Corporate Headquarters. Microsoft also has two full offices across the river from Vancouver in Portland Oregon. Back in 2002 and 2003 there were a couple of Anti-Linux sites that were determined to being run by Microsoft that were... oh yes. Registered in Vancouver Washington.
One of the sites also tracked back through Utah, which is known for hosting SCO, widely regarded as a Microsoft puppet.
So I started poking around at the sites I could find that promoted Con Kolivas and REISERFS. The basis for this was Joe Barr's statement from the original Linux.com article.
Given the track record of the Linux kernel, and Torvalds' own history of integrity and straight-talking, the notion of forking the Linux kernel because of Con's wailing and gnashing of teeth makes sense only to those hunkered down in the executive bunkers in RedmondThe more I searched and the more I saw, I kept seeing links back to Vancouver Washington. Inquirers into public ownership and site registration kept going back to Vancouver.
Never the same address, and sometimes not even the same zip code.
Sure, it's a conspiracy theory. Microsoft couldn't possibly be supporting REISERFS and Con Kolivas with the intent of destroying Linux and forking the kernel... now... would they?
