As for the KDE/Gnome debate, I have run both Ubuntu and Kubuntu in the past on my test rig, and for some strange reason I can't wrap myself around KDE as well as Gnome. Maybe it's the fact that Gnome is dumbed down a little too much for experienced linux desktop users, or maybe KDE is just a little too advanced for me, a simple Windows user.
